Hello Potters
WELCOME to our new club & newsletter #1!
Technically, we’re still the same club but we have formalised our group and are proud to announce that we are now an Incorporated club. We have many exciting new plans, adventures and workshops and we’re so happy to be taking you with us. We’ll keep you up to date via the newsletter on the first Friday of the month. But first, a message from our new President...
President’s Report
Welcome to our inaugural newsletter, I hope you enjoy this first edition and all the information we have to share with you.
I find it interesting that I'm writing this welcome on the evening of 23rd September, exactly 2 months since this committee was voted in to take the Club into its next chapter. We have achieved a lot in this short time, while still having our jobs, families and other commitments to attend to. I would like to say a BIG Thank You to my fellow committee members for all the hard work everyone has put in.
What we’ve achieved:
• The Club is incorporated and has public liability insurance.
• We will remain at our shed, at the Sandgate PCYC, for a very minimal deed of lease rent until our new premises are ready.
• With the wonderful help from our local politicians, Stirling Hinchliffe MP, Member for Sandgate, and Cr Jared Cassidy, Deagon Ward (THANK YOU BOTH!), we have been in discussions with All About Living (a local Sandgate Not for Profit organisation) and they will be building the Club a new purpose built shed behind the old Girl Guides Hut on Baskerville Street in Brighton... only a few minutes' drive from the PCYC. We don't have a moving date yet, but the wheels are turning, we're excited and can't wait to move in.
• A big shout out to our member, Ed Trost, who kindly donated his time and creative mind to create the Club's new logo. We love the new look and feel, Ed!.
• Our new membership application pack is ready and is attached. Please read the attachments to the form, fill it out and send back to us as soon as is convenient.
Finally, a request to you, our members -
Unfortunately our Secretary recently resigned and we must fill the position within one month (per Club Rule 15(2)), with that date being 15 October. Under Club Rule 15(1) the Committee can appoint a Secretary at any time.
So, if you would like to help us to keep the Club running smoothly please let us know by return email of your interest to be Secretary, ASAP! We will provide you with support in stepping into the role. If you have any questions about the role please ask.
Cheers and happy reading!
Tamara Vitale
President, SPC Inc

Thursday evenings 6.00pm - 9.00pm
SESSION FEE — $7.00 per visit, payable to the club either by EFT to the account or via the Square using your card. (We are hoping to achieve a cashless club which not only makes managing the finances easier but is judicious in these Covid times. ) Please let us know via email if you are intending to come so we can maintain Covid regulations on numbers in the shed .
CLAY — Clay is still available and I want to thank Greg (Gus) for driving up the coast to collect our clay supplies. Our shelves are stocked! Payment for clay is being done by using the Square, or as a direct deposit to the club’s new account.
We love that our members are enthusiastic about learning all aspects of clay work and we have wheel and handbuilding courses coming up. If you are interested, please contact us on our new email: shorncliffepotteryclubinc@hotmail.com

POTTERY TIP CORNER
Coil work — when rolling coils, the circular motion pushes any air in the coils towards the ends. Always cut both ends off your coils before attaching them to your project. It may help avoid the pot blowing up in the kiln. (See the coiled jug below)
